Models and Explanations in Economics 2017

Models and Explanations in Economics 2017

Last year a flight was delayed due to confusion about the economic modelling of an arabic looking Italian professor (see last year). In the meantime travel options for many people with an arabic background have been reduced considerably. While it is still unclear whether there is a direct causal connection - not problematising the notion of causality here - the workshop aims to further clarify the arguably innocuous aspirations of (most) economic models. How can they be understood? Where is their claim at reality? And are they really innocuous? These and related questions shall once again be discussed by researchers from both Philosophy and Economics.

Should the discussion contribute to reducing the necessity of walls and travel limitation to provide a sense of security in this world and to increase tolerance (and be it only for economists and/or philosophers from all cultures), what harm could it be?
